The Properties of Hydrogen Peroxide
Hydrogen Peroxide , is a colorless, transparent liquid, soluable in
water, alcohol, and ether, and with corrosiveness in high concentration.
It would decompose into oxgen and water in post state.
The density of 30% hydrogen peroxide is 1.11g/cm3 , melting
point -0.89
, and boiling point 151.4 .
Its molecular formula is H2O2 , molecular weight
: 34.01.
Both its breaching and sterilization capacities is fairly strong,
and even more so in alkali condition.
The Stablility of Hydrogen
Peroxide
The hydrogen peroxide can be decomposed and catalyzed, the decomposion
is a exothermal reaction, and send out gas simultaneously.
2H2O2 (Liquid) 2H2O
(Liquid) + O2 (Gas)
2H2O2 (Gas) 2H2O
(Gas) + O2 (Gas)
Several factors that leverage the effect of the decomposing process
of hydrogen peroxide is as follows: temperature, pH value, and catalyze
purities, etc.
1 . Temperature :
H2O2 is relative stable at relatively low
temperature and high purities. When heated to 153¡æ or above, the
pure H2O2 would incur explosive decomposition.
The decomposing process would proceed smoothly at relatively low
temperature:2H2O2 2H2O
+ O2
+46.94kcal.
2 . PH :
The acidity and alkali of the medium,would exert considerable inflence
to the stablity of the H2O2 . The H2O2
in acidity condition is relatively stable, and sluggish in oxidization;
while in alkali medium, it is very unstable, but swift in decomposition,
The reaction speed of the H2O2 as the oxidizer
is quicker than it in alkali solution, therefore,to heat the alkali
solution would utterly destroy the excessive H2O2
.
3 . impurity :
impurity is an imperitive element effecting the decomposing of H2O2
, many metal ion, such as Fe2+,Mn2+,Cu2+,Cr3+
would speed up the decomposing of H2O2 . As
for industrial H2O2 , due to the present of
many impurity of metal ion, substantial amount of stablizer should
be added to check the catalyzing of the impurity, according to the
principle of reduction and complexing.
4 . light :
The light whose wavelength is 3200 - 3800A may also speedup the
decomposing speed of H2O2 .
In order to restrain the decomposing of the H2O2
, action should be taken to deal with the four factors of heat,
light, PH, and metal ion.
The storage and transportation
of hydrogen peroxide
Storage
H2O2 should be stored in cool and adequately
ventilated warehouse, to avoid the direct sunburn ;
It is strictly forbidden to be stored together with alkali, metal,
metal compound, and inflammables with no isolation of some sort.
The receptacle should be lidded and kept exhaust to retain the purities
of the H2O2 in the receptacle against pollution;
In case of broken receptacle and leakage, please rinse with large
volume of water..
If all storage and transportation condition is met, the concentration
of the product would by no mean downgrade to the 3% of the original
within one year.
Transportation
The product is transported according to the regulation for the oxidizer,
and avoid violent vibration;
Please don't touch the product with bare hand, unless you wear plastic
cement in course of operation;.
In case you touch unscrupulously or there is leakage in the packing,
please rinse by water.
Packing
The product is packed with polyethylene barrel and 25kg/barrel,
and there is a little aperture on the lid.
The saftey
document of hydrogen
peroxide
toxicity
Generally, H2O2 is intoxic, but it sstimulates
the skin, eye, and mucous membrane, and cause bleaching and ignition
when the concentration is on the low side, while form bubble on
the skin or severely damage the eye when it is on the high side,
The steam gas would stimulate the lung or even lead to severe damage
to the organ when it enters into the respiration system. Please
rinse with pure water in case it contaminates the human body or
enters into the eyes.
Combustibility
H2O2 of any concentration is incombustible,
but it is a strongh oxidizer. In particular, it would cause other
inflammables to burn when the concentration is on the high side,
and it ignite the burning through combination of decomposing and
oxidization, The higher the concentration, the easier for the ignition
to start. When the spill H202 is in contact
with the inflammables , it is necessary to rinse them by using large
amount of water, to get rid of H2O2 .
Explosive
properties
H2O2 may decompose to sent out oxygen and
heat in the present of catalyzing impurity. The higher the temperature
and concentration, the quicker would be the decomposing. Therefore,
once the decomposing is triggered, it would speed up automatically
with the exothermic and temperature increase, which would result
in the increase of the material's temperature, and yield more gas
(oxygen and steamed gas)which would inflate with the temperature
increase. The H2O2 solution would not explode at room temperature
and pressure, but the oxygen decomposed from H2O2 would merge with
steamed gas or gs to form explosive mixer in given condition, the
mixer would post thread of explosion once ignited by (for example,
sparkle, and static electricity, etc..)
The relation
between quality of hydrogen peroxide and its application
Because the ordinary industrial grade hydrogen peroxide contains
large amount of anthraquinone organic impurites, and cation and
anion, mechanic impurites, etc. These harmful and toxic impurity
would seriously impact the application of hydrogen peroxide in some
industry arena, such as food, electronic, electroplate, chemical
synthesis, etc..
Refined and weeded off some of its impurity, it is a high quality,
pure hydrogen peroxide, and therefore applicable in all demanding
situation..
The testing
method of H2O2 content
Weight 0.2g (0.18ml) as sample,and weight to the precision of 0.0002g.
Add 25ml water and 10ml 4mol/L sulfuric acid, titrate with 0.1mol/L
potassium permanganate solution till it turns purple, and see to
it that the color doesn't fade within 30sec.
The percentage content (X) of H2O2 is counted
as follows:
Where : V - the consumption of potassium permanganate solution ,
ml ;
C - -the concentration
of potassium permanganate standard solution , mol / L ;
m - the quality
of sample , g ;
0.01701 - 1/2H2O2 ,g/mmol .
